The project aims to facilitate the coming together of processes and assessments used by various agencies to develop a Limestone Coast Roadside Management Strategy, with a focus on the integration of First Nations knowledge and practices. This project will enable Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation to elevate the importance of the estimated 10,600 km of road network and associated 10,000 hectares of roadside vegetation to be valued and managed as one continuous corridor of the Limestone Coast region.

Protection and Preparedness: Mapping Aboriginal Heritage for
disaster risk reduction

This project seeks to address the competing tensions of heritage protection and confidentiality requirements by seeking to develop a mapping tool that balances these needs. It will develop a method to share a form of digital location to inform emergency service personnel that Aboriginal heritage exists in the vicinity of the incident and may be under threat by mitigation actions, while protecting the precise location and nature of the site(s).

SA’s grape/wine/tourism sector contributes $2.12 billion directly to SA’s economy, accounting for 50% of Australia’s annual grape production. The 2019/20 wildfires in the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island revealed a lack of preparedness, and vulnerabilities in wine, grape and tourism businesses. This project will consult with various SA government experts and the sector to identify future opportunities, and develop customised tools for utilisation by the sector.

Translating Department for Industry, Innovation and Science small business survey findings into everyday business as usual risk reduction knowledge and behaviours to get ahead of future disasters.

This project is a collaboration between social enterprise Resilient Ready the Department for Industry, Innovation and Science and Council of Small Business Organisations Australia. It will deliver a “Business Community Resilience Toolkit” program across two high risk regions in South Australia. In addition, the project will complete a strategic program of surveys and on/offline workshops presenting micro-learning scenarios to small business owners across metro, regional and rural locations to test risk reduction methodologies and incentives that translate government policy into business-as-usual behaviours with a core focus on business-related insurance issues and solutions.

Children and Young People in Emergency Service Organisations Project

Engagement and inclusion of young people as volunteers can raise awareness of disasters and their consequences and build community resilience. The Country Fire Service Cadet Program was last reviewed in 2010, and is not well known to the communities of SA. This project will collaborate with agencies, such as State Emergency Service. Australian Red Cross and Army Cadets to co-design a program with current cadets and volunteers to modernise the approach and ensure young people are engaged, valued, trained, and wanting to transition to adult volunteers.

The RAMP is piloting the integration of climate risk into local government asset management systems, including spatially mapping climate risk, understanding their impacts on selected asset classes (roads, bridges, stormwater, major buildings, coastal and open space assets) and identifying opportunities for councils to fund any resourcing shortfall to maintain community assets and service standards.
